District Governor Doug's Monthly Message - from the June Issue of 'The Bridge'Image

As we enter the month of June, the last month of the Rotary year, I want to thank all Rotarians in District 6330 for the privilege of serving as your governor for the Rotary year 2014-2015.

It has been a busy, eventful and exciting year for me personally. I had the opportunity to represent our District at the 2014 Institute in Toronto and meet with our Prime Minister, who was honoured by the Rotary Foundation with the Polio Champion Award in recognition of Canada’s ongoing financial support of the Polio Eradication program.

I also had the privilege of serving as the Aide to RI President Gary C.K. Huang and his wife Corinna, when they visited London for the 100th anniversary of the Rotary Club of London, where I had the honour to host a reception for Major Donors and to participate in the presentation to 5 of this year’s 11 Major Donors with their recognitions at the 100th Anniversary Gala.

The most enjoyable activity for me was the opportunity to meet our members in the District during my official visits in August, September, October and 1 in November. We have many outstanding clubs in our District and they do amazing projects in their communities and internationally. All clubs, large or small, have a common goal, “to do good in the world”.

Other highlights included participating in the Area 6 “Pasta for Polio” event, RC of St. Marys Polio Entertainment evening; (these 2 events raised almost $10,000). We also celebrated a number of milestone anniversaries-London (100 years), St. Marys (90 years), London East (60 years), Festival City Stratford (20 years) and St. Thomas Railway City (1 year).

Thank you for your efforts to increase membership, as it appears that our District will grow in 2014-2015, and if so will reverse the trend experienced over the last 5 years.

Your support of the Foundation and Polio Eradication has been very strong to date. Please try to achieve your Annual Fund goal by June 30, as this is the money that our District gets back in 3 years to allow the District to continue to support our District and Global grants.

Again, I thank you for the privilege of being your District Governor, for all the work that you do and for your efforts to LIGHT UP ROTARY in 2014-2015.

Doug Burnard
District Governor 2014-2015
