District Governor Doug's Monthly Message - from the May Issue of 'The Bridge'Image

The month of May means that we have only two months left in this Rotary year.

However, May will be a busy month for most clubs as there have been many Rotary events scheduled, including the 20th Anniversary of the Rotary Club of Festival City on May 5th, the Five Grand Feast at the RC of Burton on May 7th, the 1st Anniversary of the St. Thomas Railway City Rotary Club on May 20th, the 90Anniversary of the RC of St. Marys on May25th, several area meetings and multiple fundraising events.

The District Conference is also in May this year. May 21-23, only 3 weeks away. If you haven’t registered yet, please do so as soon as possible via the District Website or mail. See the article on the conference in this newsletter. Please ensure to advise DG Doug of any member of your club who has passed away during this past year so that they can be included in the Celebration of Life event on Saturday afternoon.

DISTRICT MEMBERSHIP: We started this year at 1827 members and for the first time this year, our District membership is above our starting number. Thanks to all the clubs who have inducted new members (24) during March and April. I would ask all other clubs to endeavor to increase membership by one (net) by the end of June. This will start a trend for our district-increasing membership.

FOUNDATION GIVING: I would ask all Rotarians and clubs to make it a priority to support the Rotary Foundation before the end of June, if you have not already done so.

Please check to see if your club is close to being a 100% Sustaining Club; close to an EREY Club and have, or will achieve or surpass the Annual Fund goal that your club submitted for this Rotary year. Remember, 50% of contributions to the Annual Fund come back to the District 3 years later, which we use to fund our District and Global grants.

It has been a great year for me personally as I have had the opportunity to meet and work with Rotarians throughout the District, Zone 24 and the Rotary International President Gary C.K. Huang.

Thank you for your support as we Light Up Rotary in District 6330.

Doug Burnard
District Governor 2014-2015
