October is Economic and Community Development month. This month we think about one of Rotary’s six areas of focus – Economic and Community Development.

We also focus on World Polio Day on October 24 to heighten awareness for polio eradication as we countdown to zero.

Economic and Community Development

Rotary supports investments in people to create measurable and enduring economic improvement in their lives and communities. The Rotary Foundation enables Rotarians to invest in people by creating sustainable, measurable and long term economic improvements in their communities and livelihoods by:
  • Building the capacity of entrepreneurs, community leaders, local organizations, and community networks to support economic development in impoverished communities;
  • Developing opportunities for productive work;
  • Reducing poverty in under-served communities;
  • Supporting studies for career-minded professionals related to economic and community development.

World Polio Day – October 24, 2017

October 24, 2017 will be World Polio Day. This year we celebrate the countdown to zero campaign. Nobody knows when the last case of polio will be reported, but we are cautiously optimistic that we will see it sometime soon.

For the 3 years following the last case of polio we must continue to identify areas of the world where the polio virus exists and continue to immunize the world’s children against the disease. I encourage all clubs, and all individual Rotarians, in District 6330 to continue their financial support of this valuable project.

  • Join the live streamed event at www.endpolio.org/world-polio-day.
  • Encourage people to donate to Rotary’s Polio Eradication efforts and celebrate the Countdown to Zero.
  • Organize club events to acknowledge World Polio Day.
  • Post your activities and events on your club and on the District 6330 Facebook page and/or send them the newsletter editor (email link) to be posted on the District 6330 website and/or in future newsletters.
