Top of mind for many Rotarians these days is how can we help victims of recent natural disasters - hurricanes, wild fires, and earthquakes. The need is great, and Rotary's response is varied. To help you decide how to help, I offer the following websites;
As Mary and I continue to visit our district clubs, sharing a message about adapting our clubs to a changing world and engaging club members in conversation about their club’s achievements and plans for the future, we continue to be impressed by the vitality of individual Rotarians and Rotary clubs in our District and by the work that is being done in our local communities, and internationally.
This month we think about one of Rotary’s six areas of focus – specifically Economic and Community Development – we also celebrate World Polio Day on October 24.
ROTARY CLUBS OF SARNIA DONATE $16,000 TO CARIBBEAN FOR HURRICANE RELIEF
Sarnia, ON / 2 October 2017 –On Monday September 18 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm members from the Rotary Club of Sarnia served a Lasagna dinner at DeGroot’ s Nurseries with all proceeds going to Hurricane Relief in the Caribbean.
From red ponchos to pub crawls, Rotary clubs are coming up with a variety of ways to promote polio eradication in October. In eastern Ontario and western Quebec, Canada, thousands of Rotary members will put on red ponchos and march through the streets of their towns to raise awareness. UNICEF and the World Health Organization have produced a nearly-four-minute video thanking Rotary and its members for protecting the world’s children against polio for more than 30 years.
Every dollar you have donated and every drop of vaccine you have helped administer have brought us one step closer to a polio-free world. This video is a powerful reminder of the positive impact Rotarians have made around the world.
There's an opportunity for 30 Rotary clubs to have a poster prepared by youth in their community displayed in the Toronto subway system. Here's a note from the Toronto Host Organizing Committee (HOC) for the Toronto 2018 Convention with the details.
Did you know that our District has been participating in a multi-district group (with representatives from: 7010;7040;7070;7080;7090; 6330; 5550) called “Honouring Indigenous Peoples”?
District 6330 is embarking on it's first year as a Rotary Friendship Exchange District. We are now officially registered as such with Rotary International. Connections have been made with several districts in the Rotary world.
Tentatively, we are planning a Rotary Cultural Friendship Exchange with District 2430 in Turkey.
Two years ago District 6330 selected 2 candidates for the Rotary Foundation Global Scholar program. Both Surer Mohamed and Andrew Player went to the UK to further their studies during the past academic year.
Surer to pursue her Master of Philosophy in International Relations and Politics at the University of Cambridge - and - Andrew pursued his Master of Science in International Relations at London School of Economics and Political Science.
