Happy May! As we begin to celebrate our unofficial start to summer, I want to take this opportunity to share with you a couple of happenings—
First, please join District 7080 in partnership with other Districts in our area for “Hike It, Love It, Keep It Clean” which is an initiative to complete a little clean-up along the Bruce Trail Conservancy. The initiative will take place on June 11-12, 2022 and requires registration (for impact-recording purposes). For more information and to sign up, please visit https://rotary7080.org/page/hike-it-love-it-keep-it-clean/.
Second, if you haven’t done so, please register for this year’s virtual conference. The conference will open on Friday, June 24th and anyone who registers will have access to all of the presentations and information until June 30th. This conference can be viewed and participated in on your own time and will include both Rotary and professional development speakers from all over the world. You can register here: https://www.crsadmin.com/EventPortal/Registrations/PublicFill/EventPublicFill.aspx?evtid=fd04ad19-7b69-49cd-b6fe-7281c65503dd
To have your event listed, put it on your ClubRunner Calendar or send an email with details for your upcoming event to the Editor. Your feedback, suggestions, and submissions are welcomed.
If you have a story to tell, pictures to show off, or an event to publicize, please send it to the editor and we will publish it and/or make sure it gets on the District 6330 website.
For the last five years, the Rotary Club of Meaford has focused its international efforts on an island in Lake Victoria, Tanzania. The people there are extremely poor and live on subsistence farming and fishing. The infant and mother death rates were a significant problem. Historically, there are 150-195 baby deaths and 3-5 maternal deaths each year. The small hospital delivers on average one baby every hour, round the clock, 365 days per year. Nurses avoided working the labour ward because each death was investigated and nurses were often held accountable.
Early in 2021, in partnership with the Thornbury-Clarksburg club and the Rotary Club of Collingwood, we supported the purchase of an ultrasound for the maternity department of the island’s hospital. Staff were taught how to utilize the equipment and began to use it in May 2021.
Looking ahead to District Grant projects in 22-23, there have been 5 proposals submitted. Is your Club ready to submit their proposal (s). 10 Clubs are fully qualified, 7 Clubs have at least 2 members qualified but have not yet submitted the MOU and 10 Clubs have 1 member qualified. I believe that the DDF to share for these District Grants for 22-23 is approximately $48,000. Please talk up possible projects quickly so that the proposals can be submitted. If you have a great idea and the budget is more than your Club can spend, talk to another Club about doing a joint project. Only 1 proposal is required with the second Club listed as a Partner. However, both Clubs need to be qualified for District Grants.
Rotaract Clubs can now apply for District Grants for their projects. Maybe your Club can partner with a Rotaract Club to maximize the learning opportunities for your members and increase the budget for the project.

Because of the pandemic the last two seasons have been difficult in the curling community with lockdowns and social distancing requirements. It has been the same for Rotary Curling. The Biannual Rotary Worlds in Madison Wisconsin and the annual Can Am bonspiels in Peterborough and Grimsby were cancelled.
The border region between Afghanistan and Pakistan remains fragile and one additional new case in Pakistan has been reported in May (and will show up on this graphic next report).
After 2 years of closure Camp Presqu’ile will be re-opening for the Summer of 2022! The re-opening of camp for the summer 2022 season will bring a beloved part of the Owen Sound community back to life. Parents and campers alike have expressed their joy that camp will be back this summer and they can’t wait to return to their home away from home. Our registration is now open and we have seen a great number of campers registered.
ShelterBox has teams in Eastern Europe, in Moldova and Poland, with some travel to Ukraine when possible. Our three projects - two in Ukraine and one outside the country - aim to support both internally displaced people and Ukrainian refugees fleeing to neighboring countries, like Moldova. ShelterBox Canada's Executive Director, Stephanie Christensen, just returned from Moldova where she met with many families who left their homes with nothing more than what they could carry. Some had to walk up to 80 kilometers to cross the border to safety.
Across Europe, Rotaract members are using digital tools to share information and coordinate to help people who have been affected by the war in Ukraine
