August is Membership and New Club Development Month

Hello,
Summer has finally arrived..!

Sylvia and I are now well into our club visits and we are truly inspired as we connect and hear the depth and breadth of “Dogoodery” that is occurring in our District.

August is membership and new club development month and although the audited results for our membership growth for 2018-19 will not be available until August 15th, we are confident that we have turned the corner.

We need to build on the momentum of PDG Jim’s “Drive for 5” and continue to grow Rotary whilst at the same time ensuring our newer members are fully involved and engaged in our activities.

President Mark is keen to see an active membership Committee in each club and from my visits so far, I can see that Clubs are vigorously tackling the membership challenge.

I am excited to advise that we have 3 new Rotaract Clubs, 1 Interact Club and 3 potential satellite Rotary Clubs under active consideration. This is very encouraging and this will go a long way towards our 3 year goal of growing the number of clubs by 15.

On November 2nd we will be holding a Vibrant Club Seminar in Grand Bend, that will include integrated sessions on Membership, the Foundation and will feature the interrelationship with Public Image and have a particular focus on our ability to get our message out.

I hope you have been enjoying the “Tony Talks” videos that Sylvia and I have been filming that feature short cameos with Rotarians, Rotaractors and students throughout the District,

I will continue to do the Tony Talk sessions, so if you an idea or would like to appear in one just let me know.

I do hope you are enjoying our District photo challenge and are finding lots of fun uses for the 2020 Vision Sunglasses.

Enjoy the Summer and continue to connect and “Dogoodery!”

  • We demonstrate to our partners in UNICEF and WHO that Rotary is not just a fund-raising organization but the world’s biggest service organization.
  • We give a tremendous boost to local Rotarians who have been manning booths regularly for many years and where undoubtedly fatigue is setting in.
  • Most important of all, we get a higher turnout of children in a poor area or Agra slum when there are strange foreigners in their bright yellow Rotary shirts asking for having 2 drops of Polio Vaccine.

Idea Exchange

In the fall of 2017, my Rotary Club, London South, took a leap of faith with me.  We’d always had a traditional fundraiser that was netting us a little bit less every year.  If your community has any kind of history this idea is likely to work for you too!

I borrowed the idea from a community about a third of the size of London that had successfully implemented it more than 25 years ago and is still doing it today.  It’s a way to celebrate your community’s history while making money.  It’s a pewter, limited edition, Christmas ornament of facades of local, historic buildings.  Details of the building’s history are recorded on the back of the packaging.
