Have you, or your club, been wondering what you can do to help cyclone victims in Mozambique? Grand Bend Rotarian Brian Hall has been working on some plans with partners in District 9400 (which includes parts of Mozambique) - this may be the opportunity you're looking for.

As many in the District will know, the Rotary Club of Grand Bend has had a successful program to repurpose surplus school supplies by delivering them to needy schools in Africa and a few other countries. They recently loaded container #84 in London on March 16th with assistance from the Rotary Clubs of St. Thomas, London and St. Marys as well as several Rotaractors and exchange students.
With daily news reaching us of the devastation caused by Cyclone Idai in Mozambique, Malawi and Zimbabwe, local efforts are being made to respond with a sea container which would contain dried soup mix from the Ontario Christian Gleaners in Cambridge along with medical supplies and relief goods such as polyethylene sheeting. While there are still hurdles to cross to make sure the goods are delivered to the areas of greatest need, the idea is catching interest in several Rotary Clubs. Charles Deiner who spearheads the Global Literacy Project in South Africa is currently District Governor of District 9400 which includes parts of Mozambique. He is assessing the best way for our District to help. Their website provides some information:  https://rotary9400.co.za/cyclone-idai/
At this point we would like to invite Clubs in District 6330 to express their interest in assisting Grand Bend to put this container together. Help will be needed to raise the approx $6000 CDN expected cost of shipping and customs clearing the container to Mozambique. We would also like to accept cash donations from the public and we need to have a Club with a Foundation take charge of these public donations and issue tax receipts. Can you or your Club supply items to be included in the container such as rope, milk bag mats, menstrual kits, medical or hygiene items or ……? We will also need some volunteers to load the container although much of it will be done by forklift.
