April Showers bring May Flowers! What about April Snow storms? May has finally arrived and along with it, warmer temperatures. May is the time to reflect on what we as Rotarians have accomplished over the past year. Congratulations to all of you for doing good in your communities and around the world! DGE Doug and his team have been preparing to Light Up Rotary and they are asking you to do your part!

We are in Rotary for several reasons, but one that I hear a lot is for the fellowship and for the service we can do to help others. I recently attended a Paul Harris Fellow presentation at a club in our district, and I was so happy to hear that one of our Ambassadorial Scholars is living the Rotary motto Service Above Self. Not only will he complete his Masters Degree this June in Jerusalem, but he has been volunteering EVERY week at a local orphanage working with young children.

Of all the things that he has accomplished, his mother says that his volunteer work in that orphanage is what makes her most proud of her son! He is only 25 and he has done world community service (not all Rotary) in Haiti, Mexico, and the Dominican Republic ….all before he entered college for his bachelor’s degree! As a Rotarian in District 6330, I am so proud of our Ambassadorial Scholars (now known as Global Scholars). I can say that the money that we have given to the Rotary Foundation that helps fund this program is money well invested!

To my Club Presidents for the 2013-14 year, thank you for all your diligence in leading your clubs and doing what you do best …..serving others! I believe that we have accomplished a great deal in Rotary Foundation giving, helping our local communities where the need is the greatest, and enjoying the fellowship of being with other Rotarians at conferences, Rotary meetings, special events …..As an international district, let’s remember to support each other in our fundraising events on both sides of the St. Clair River! Quite often club events are featured in our district newsletter, The Bridge. After all, we are all part of one of the greatest Rotary districts in the world! Please encourage all of your members to visit other clubs in our district ….You can share what your club does, and you can learn so much about how our clubs operate in the district. You can also pick up some great ideas for your own club.

By the end of this month, thousands of Rotarians from all over the world will be converging in beautiful Sydney, Australia for the Rotary International Convention ….I believe the anticipated attendance will be about 20,000 Rotarians and partners from over 500 Rotary districts. Visit the link on our district website or you can also find the link on www.rotary.org .

If you have not already done so, please go to www.rotary6330.org and register for our 2014 District Conference in Walkerton. If you are a golfer, the golf tournament is on Thursday, June 12th, 2014. The conference begins on Friday, June 13th and concludes on Sunday, June 15th. We would love the "Pleasure of Your Company" …Marie and I hope to see you in Walkerton next month!
